Central Ohio River Valley Local Foods Guide
There are lots of reasons to eat locally and sustainably grown food. As you consider this pledge, don’t think of it as an all or nothing proposition. We’d like to collect pledges, then harvest your stories and experiences in the fall at our local foods gathering on Sunday, Sept. 21st, 2008 at the Civic Garden Center (2715 Reading Rd., Cincinnati, OH 45206). Enjoy!
Some ideas to consider: Ask where food is grown. Learn what’s in season here. Choose local over non-local when possible. Choose family growers. Get to know a grower. Visit a farmers’ market once a week. Join a CSA. Grow food in your yard or a tomato on your porch. Cook and share recipes using local products. Buy extra and freeze for later. Learn to can and do it with a friend. Have an “eat local” party and invite us.
